NADAMA Book Launch: Amb. Buratai, Dr Aminat Zakari, urge Nigerians to be resilient in battling cervical cancer 

Former Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Amb. Tukur Yusufu Buratai has urged Nigerians to be resilient and not give in to the threats posed by cervical cancer.

Amb. Buratai gave this awareness while speaking during the launch of a book on cervical cancer, written in Hausa, “NADAMA”, in Abuja on Saturday. He said, “NADAMA is an impressive work of fiction on how to fight cervical cancer and promote a healthy society, which will help Nigerians reach one of the sustainable development goals”.  He stated that the early stages of cervical cancer don’t indicate any symptoms and are very hard to diagnose.

However, the first sign of cervical cancer may take several years to develop, as stated by most specialists. He added that crucial information on the disease is provprovidedAMA are is required cause prevention is better than cure.

Buratai applauds Fatima Sanda Usara, the author of the book, for the great initiative, which will go a long way towards sensitising Nigerians and, of course, the neighbouring countries as well as the West Africa sub-region, where the Hausa language is mostly spoken.

Dr Aminat Zakari, the DG Lami Fatima Babare Cervical Cancer Foundation, and representative of the president, of the Nigerian Cancer Society, was also in attendance.  In her words, “This book NADAMA has touched on two соre issues, cervical cancer, and UUF. It is a well-known fact that no woman should die of Cervical Cancer or Suffer morbidity 2° UUF. We have the technical, and medical tools, policies, and approaches to eliminate them.

“The burden of these two issues is high in Nigeria especially Northern Nigeria and worst, in the rural communities.

“At the NCS, we understand the dedication and hand work that goes into writing and publishing a good book. The NCS is pledging to advance the course of the author in kind in reaching the target audience with our representation in the whole of the country through our branches at the grassroots.  Cheers to you from all of us at the NCS for a well-done job.”
