18-year-old Unilorin student becomes chartered accountant
Miss Faith Aduragbemi Olabisi, an 18-year-old student from the Department of Accounting, has successfully qualified as a chartered accountant.
She is among the several candidates who passed the November 2024 professional examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
In an interview with the UNILORIN Bulletin, Miss Olabisi shared that it had always been her goal to become a chartered accountant at the earliest opportunity. She expressed deep appreciation for the support and encouragement she received from her lecturers and mother, which played a crucial role in helping her achieve this remarkable feat at such a young age.
Dr. Segun Abogun, the Acting Head of the Department of Accounting, expressed his admiration for Miss Olabisi’s “outstanding achievement.”
He noted that she was among several students from the department who succeeded in the ICAN professional exams last year. Dr. Abogun encouraged Miss Olabisi and her peers to continue serving as role models and to inspire more students to follow in their footsteps, with the goal of producing more chartered accountants from the department even before their graduation.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, also congratulated Miss Olabisi, expressing great pride in her accomplishment. In a statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor stated that he was not surprised by her performance, as the University of Ilorin has consistently produced top professionals among its students, staff, and alumni.
Prof. Egbewole highlighted that achievements like Miss Olabisi’s, along with the institution’s commitment to maintaining a peaceful environment, contribute to the University being one of the most sought-after in the country.
He congratulated her for making herself, her family, the University, and women everywhere proud. He also urged her to continue excelling in her studies and to be a shining example of excellence in both academics and character.
The Vice Chancellor further encouraged other students to look up to Miss Olabisi and follow her example in order to achieve success in their own academic and professional pursuits.
