19-year-old dies of electrocution while operating machine at factory

A 19-year-old machine operator, Ishaku Monday, tragically lost his life after being electrocuted while working at Xinfeng Plastics Limited, a factory located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident on Monday.

According to Odutola, the accident occurred around 7:30pm on Sunday when the teenager was operating a palletising machine inside the factory.

He was immediately rushed to Idera Medical Centre in Sagamu, where a doctor later confirmed his death.

“The Nigerian manager of the company, Francis Felix, reported the incident to the Sagamu Division of the Ogun State Police Command on Monday around 7am,” Odutola said.

She added that detectives visited the scene to take photographs and initiate an investigation.

However, the victim’s family declined further inquiries into the incident and requested the release of the body for burial.

Monday’s remains have been deposited at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital mortuary.
