The Yobe State Government in collaboration with the World Bank has supported returnee Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and those still in camps in the area of agriculture.
According to the state government, 300 IDPs have been provided with farmlands, tractors, seeds and fertilizers.
The farm inputs will enable recipients engage in agricultural activities aimed at enabling their economic recovery.
The UNDP in collaboration with Japanese government, the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) and the Victims Support Fund (VSF) has also supported the IDPs with cash, improved seeds, fertilizers and livestock.
The World Bank Fadama project on its part has supported vulnerable persons and IDPs with agricultural inputs, livestock, poultry and inputs for fish farming under the North-East Food Security and Livelihood Support Project.
Under the scheme, the Yobe government has paid the N20 million counterpart fund for the project with 5,000 households expected to benefit from the programme.
More than 2,000 vulnerable households from Gujba, Gulani, Nangere, Bade, Jakusko, Yunusari, Gaidam and Potiskum local government areas have already benefitted from the projects.
The items provided include water pump machines, sprayers, fertilizers and herbicides, as well as birds and feeds for poultry farmers.
The beneficiary households also received a support package consisting of foodstuff such as rice, beans, maize and vegetable oil to prevent them from selling off the water pumps, birds and the livestock to meet basic needs.
The poultry farmers have started selling eggs to improve their incomes, while their livestock has started multiplying.
