Former Kano state governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has intervened in the controversial issue of scholarship between Kano state students studying abroad and the state government.
The state government had recalled 37 students from their academic pursuits abroad and threatened to stop funding their studies.
The former governor who sponsored the students during his tenure was informed of the development by the committee on education through the parents of the students.
Kwankwaso also visited the students in Cairo. The students were said to be ordered by the government to return home even without completing their studies after it said it could no longer fund their tuition and upkeep.
The students are presently in their final year.
The state government had sent a delegation to Egypt to assess the student’s performance and found that the affected students did not undergo the programmes they were sent there to study and performed poorly in their academics and the government planned to transfer them to another school back home.
However, the college refused to initiate the transfer stating their poor performance in their academic work as a deterring factor.
The college wrote the state government to notify it that the students had performed poorly and it would affect them more if they were taken back home or transferred to another college.
The college however said the students had begun a re-training process and they were performing better, adding the programme would be concluded in eight months.
