Long stay at home for students looms as ASUU decide on strike

Today is decision day for the Academic Staff Union of Universities to announce their plans regarding an impending strike that has loomed over Nigerian student’s heads in the past months.marks the beginning of an indefinite strike planned by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
A memo dated August 12 which is being circulated online lamented how the government had not fulfilled their promises in an agreement signed in 2013 between the union and Federal government.
The union is expected to brief newsmen later today after an “extensive” meeting of all state branches in Abuja on their plans regarding te strike, its duration, and other related matter.
The National Executive Council of the union had met in July, 2017, to deliberate on issues arising from the 2009 ASUU/FGN agreement, the 2013 MoU and other related issues.
ASUU is agitating for payment of unpaid and part paid salaries; non-payment of earned academic allowances, non-release of operational licence of NUPENCO, retired professors benefits, university staff schools, and funds for the upgrade of public universities among others.
