As part of efforts to provide access to portable water in Southern Borno, the Senator representing the area, Mohammed Ali Ndume has met with leaders from IDP camps with the aim to strategise on providing lasting solutions to water scarcity witnessed in the area.
The Senator who visited IDP camps and some parts of the town commended Government’s, Military and Non Governmental Organisations’ effort to alleviate the hardships of internally displaced persons.
Ndume said that he started the water, hospital, Youths Empowerment, and farming projects for members of his constituency residing in and outside the state “because these are their primary needs at the moment.”
Senator Ndume who declined to give conservative estimates of all the projects cost, said however that no single ward in his constituency has not got a borehole and Tractors for farming. “Some wards have two or more,” he said.
“I always tell you to de-emphasize the issue of project pricing, let us look at the intention and look at the viability and the usage to our community because money and pricing is vanity, the ultimate service we want to provide is our goal not the sum of money that will be catchy to people”, he remarked.
Senator Ali Ndume recalled that during his electioneering campaigns, part of the problems the people faced, aside poverty, was water scarcity, including poor roads, access to modernised farming equipment and skills acquisition.
The senator informed the IDPs of Borno government’s commitment to tackling some of their challenges and promised to forward their complains to the appropriate institutions. and thanked security personnel in the area for the Weldon job.

He noted that the health of the people was deteriorating as a result of insurgency and lack of portable water, which he explained could result in a disease break out.
The former Senate leader lauded the intervention of Non Governmental Organization especially International Organization For Migration for their support inthe provision of water, food and medical services.
Anti-Buhari protests
Ndume also commented on anti-Buhari protests going on in Abuja.
“It has become imperative I lend my voice to the on going protest @ Unity Fountain area in Abuja. Since the President handed over to his deputy as required by the Constitution, through National Assembly, he can only resume office after he returns and writes National Assembly notifying them of his return and willingness to resume duties.
“You don’t force a sick person to resume duties against his doctor’s advice,” the said.
“After all the constitution did not specify the number of days a President should stay away on sick leave. There’s no time limit,” he said.
