An unknown woman who gave birth to a baby girl threw her new born inside an empty sack at a dump site near a GSM mast in Ngomari Airport, Maiduguri.
At about nine o’clock in the morning, a watchman attached to the GSM facilities, Mohammed Jibrin raised alarm that a newly born baby girl was dumped near the facilities.
Residents of Ngomari Airport defied the heavy rainfall and besieged the place to see the barbaric act of the “heartless mother.”
” What a horrible mother, innallaihi wa Inna ilaihil Raj’un (From God we came and to Him we will return). Where is this world taking us?” Mairo, mother of two in the area said.
Aomeone who claimed he witnessed the incident but wasn’t sure what was going on said that “two young ladies came to the area at about eleven o’clock last night and left the empty pack.
“We saw two ladies quiet alright, they came yesterday at night, and after staying like ten minutes, they left this empty pack, we thought they just ate something,” he said.
Another resident said ” Perhaps the baby died before she was dumped by her mother, because there’s no way a baby alive will be dumped without hearing her crying in this cold weather”.
Mohammed Jibrin told our correspondent that in the morning while conducting sentry guard he heard dogs barking and on reaching the place, he saw the baby dumped beside an empty cartoon near the GSM network mast.
” Immediately when I saw it, I reported the matter to the nearest police station for necessary action ”
Majority of the residents at the scene rained curses on the culprit and appealed to parents to monitor their wards and give moral upbringing to their children.
The dead baby was buried accordingly.
