Atletico Madrid has agreed to a £53 million deal with English Premier League champions, Chelsea Football Club to resign Diego Costa.
The 28-year-old striker was initially expected to leave the club this summer, but Atletico’s transfer embargo – which ends in January – seemed to complicate the deal.
A statement on Chelsea football club’s official website confirmed the deal in a statement that said “Chelsea Football Club has today agreed terms with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa.
“The transfer will be subject to the agreement of personal terms and a medical.”
Costa joined Chelsea from Atletico back in 2014.
The Brazilian striker was Chelsea’s top scorer in both Premier League title victories in 2014/15 and 2016/17, but was told by manager Antonio Conte at the end of last season that he was no longer in his plans.
Costa made 89 Premier League appearances for Chelsea scoring 52 goals. He had 16 assists and won two 2 titles.
