A Civil Society Organisation in Borno State has condemned the arrest of internally displaced persons of Bama who staged a protest to return back to their local Government three years after they were chased by Boko Haram.
Speaking to Journalists in Maiduguri, the Borno State Chairman of the Civil society Organization, Ambassador Ahmed Shehu said the society gave 48 hours to the Police to release the arrested persons.
According to him, two wrongs cannot make a right, we are therefore calling on authorities concerned to release these people within the hours stated and find another solution to relocate them back.
” You can’t arrest people that are already tramautized and suffered hardships for over the years simply for protest ” he said.
I just got an information that the arrested protesters will be taken to prison, are we that lawless?” he queried.
Ambassador Shehu also called on all relevant stakeholders to look at the situation from humantarian perspective and consider the situation the protesters found themselves.
“Borno is in need of peace and let government focus in arresting those that violated Human Rights not those willing to go back home.
“Actually I condemned their decision to return home without security, I even asked them, where they will get water and other basic needs,” he said.
