On September 19, 2017, a delegation of the Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiative handed over a consignment of food and non-food items to the Bauchi State Government.
The delegation was led by Engineer Mohammed Gambo Umar who represented the Chairman, Lt. Gen. T.Y. Danjuma (rtd).
In his remarks, Engineer Umar expressed appreciation to the government and people of Bauchi State for their hospitality towards persons displaced by the conflict in the North-East.
He observed that although there were no physical IDP camps in Bauchi, the state has distinguished herself as a warm and welcoming host to IDPs with whom its citizens are sharing shelter, farmland, hospitals and schools among other amenities.
He commended the efforts of the Bauchi state Government in accommodating the Internally Displaced Persons and providing them with farmlands and other basic needs despite the paucity of resources at the state’s disposal.
Bauchi, he said, is critical to the success of PCNI’s mandate due to its proximity to the epicentre of the hostilities and its acceptance of the influx of displaced persons.
He thanked the state for her exemplary display of mutual love, tolerance and hospitality towards their compatriots in their time of need.

Engineer Umar also disclosed that PCNI through its Subcommittee on Economic Development, of which he is a member, has developed a series of programs in the sectors of agriculture, skills acquisition, youth and women empowerment, roads, rehabilitation of hospitals and schools and other sustainable economic and social programs to bring succour to the people of the region.
He called for the state’s continued cooperation.
The delivery included 2,000 25 kg bags each of rice, maize and millet as well as 1,500 50 kg bags of sugar and 1,500 25 kg bags of beans. It also included 1,000 roofing sheets, 3,000 utensils, 400 mattresses and pillows, 5,000 bags of cement, 1,000 pieces of 12-foot wood and 4,000 buckets of paint.
