Residents of Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State have lamented the collection of extra money from them by drivers whenever they travel.
Neptune Prime’s reporter went round Potiskum LGA Mass transit park where most residents usually travel from and found that passengers were complaining about extra money
collected by the drivers for their luggages.
Dahiru Hassan, a traveller who was heading to Kano said he
paid N1500 as his transport fare and a driver asked him to give another
N500 for his luggage.
Malam Dahiru also lamented that he had been to several motor parks
across the country even though some of the drivers asked for
extra money, they often reconsider I feel one pleads with them. “But Potiskum’s case is different. If you don’t have that money foryour luggage they will not give you the ticket to travel out from thetown.”
Mrs Blessing Udoh also a traveller going to Maiduguri expressed her extreme agony over the situation. “It’s not fair to be collecting an extra token from passengers, it is an act of corruption,” she said.
The passengers adviced the drivers to embrace justice and say no to corruption as they urged the leadership of the park to be vigilant and punish any driver found collecting extra fares from passengers.
A driver in the motor park whose name is witheld however said that they were not using that money for their personal use but rather to “settle the security personnel that are patrolling on the highway.”
