A High Court of Justice in Damaturu, Yobe State, presided over by Hon. Justice U Z Mohammed, has granted a motion filed by the Peoples Democratic Party Caretaker Chairman, Yobe State, Alhaji Inuwa Nguru, seeking for the vacation of a motion filed against him by Alhaji Lawan Gana Karasuwa, restraining him, Inuwa Nguru, from being called the Caretaker Chairman of the state PDP.

The motion went further to state that the position of a caretaker committee chairman is not contained in the constitution of the PDP and thus Inuwa Nguru should stop parading himself as such.

Following this, the defendant in that motion, Alhaji Inuwa Nguru, filed a motion before the high court seeking for adoption of his own application to vacate the order filed by Alhaji Lawan Gana Karasuwa, restraining him, Inuwa Nguru, from being called the caretaker chairman of the state PDP.

Sitting on the 25th of September, 2017, the court granted Inuwa Nguru’s prayer and motion seeking his nullification vacated. With this judgement, Alhaji Sani Inuwa Nguru and his Exco remain the legal officials of Yobe state PDP.

Political observers consider the Yobe State PDP as representative of the situation of the Party at the national level, torn between its founders, as represented by Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi and co, and later day entrants, as represented by Ali Modu Sheriff (SAS).

While, the national level structure has been returned to the founders, the Yobe State chapter is still being contested by the two factions.

Fighting for the Party’s soul on one hand is Adamu Maina Waziri, a Makarfi compatriot, who backs the Sani Inuwa Nguru exco while Lawan Gana Karasuwa, represents SAS and Yerima Ngama by proxy.

The SAS faction, represented by Karasuwa, enjoy the backing of a highly ambitious senator who has lost relevance in his constituency, from Yobe State.
