Borno Governor parleys with IDB on interventions in the North-East

During his recent trip to Saudi Arabia as the leader of Borno State’s Hajj delegation, Governor Kashim Shettima paid a visit to the headquarters of the Islamic Development Bank to follow up on a number of initiatives being conducted by the bank in conjunction with the Northern Governors Forum. During their deliberations, Dr. Mukhtar reported on the progress of interventions to be carried out in different parts of Northern Nigeria and also in the North-East.
In response to Governor Shettima’s expressed desire for the interventions to proceed at a faster pace, the IDB chief said the Bank requires a stronger push by the state government to fast track outcomes of some communication between the Bank and Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Finance and the Federal Ministry of Education.
He said that the IDB has done a lot of work in the background both solely and in collaboration with the World Bank and the African Development Bank to support intervention efforts in the North East.
He also highlighted the Bank’s engagements with stakeholders in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe which revolve around rehabilitation, reconstruction and food security. The Bank is also supporting the establishment and equipment of the Centre for Trauma Management, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration in Borno State.
Before the meeting ended, various arms of the IDB made presentations to give updates on projects and programmes in their departments being carried out in different parts Nigeria. Governor Shettima was accompanied by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence and Senator representing Borno North, Abubakar Kyari.
