National Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycles Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (NCMTORAN), Potiskum Local Government Chapter in Yobe State have appealed to Governor Ibrahim Gaidam to consider the review of the curfew hours imposed on their members which limits their movements at 6:00am to 6:00pm.
The Chairman of the NCMTORAN, Sani Garba Maikifi made the appeal in a press briefing in his office, recently.
According to him, the curfew was imposed by the State Government during the peak of Boko Haram insurgency. “We strongly appeal to our amiable Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam to consider the review of the curfew hours imposed on our members which bans tricycle operations from 6:00pm, we want it extended to 10:00pm since peace has returned to the State.”
The current situation is seriously affecting us, we were barred from plying the road whenever it’s 6:00pm, we hardly get what we need to cater for our family not to talk of saving for the repairs of the tricycles”.
“We are now fully organized and law abiding, all our members are registered with the association; we have a dossier of all our members”.
According to him, the KEKE NAPEP is now very costly as one amounts to N650,000, “the owners expect a balance of N12,000 every week; the hours of our operations is too limited”.
He further revealed that their association in Potiskum alone has registered 3,100 members and all possessing valid identity cards.
Maikifi used the forum to appeal to Governor Gaidam to assist them with a loan Tricycles loan “we also request for tricycles loan from the Government under Governor Gaidam, this would go a long way in alleviating the poverty and unemployment among our youth”.
