Resident Doctors suspend strike

The National Association of Resident Doctors has suspended a 10-day old strike action.
The strike action which began on September was suspended in the early hours of Thursday after a closed-door meeting between the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole and the leadership of the association.
Resident doctors across the country began the industrial action to express their displeasure over the Federal Government’s inability to pay salary arrears and address other issues affecting health sector in Nigeria.
While speaking to journalists on reasons why the strike was suspended, the Chairman of the NARD, University College Hospital(UCH) Chapter, Dr. Segun Olaopa said the federal government asked for more time in order for them to meet the association’s demands.
Dr. Olaopa also said that the federal government will meet with the leadership of the association in a fortnight to address unsolved issues and seek a lasting conclusion to their problems.
