The Nigerian media has been tasked to reinforce its role in countering violent extremism.
The call was made by the Vice Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiative Tijjani Tumsah when he visited the headquarters of Liberty TV and Radio Station in Kaduna State.
The visit was part of the familiarization tour the coordination agency undertook to enlighten the public on its activities.
Receiving the PCNI team on behalf of Liberty TV and radio, the Acting Chief Operations Officer of the organisation, Engr Abdulkadir Sani Lere said that the unique setup and wide reach of the media organisation made Liberty TV a natural ally of PCNI.
Lere who conducted the PCNI team around the studios of Liberty TV and Radio Station, pledged that the station will continue to support PCNI in ensuring that its intervention efforts and activities are well covered in its English and Hausa broadcasts.
Responding, Tumsah further tasked the organization to consolidate its efforts in countering violent extremism especially through its Hausa programs which enjoy a large following in Northern Nigeria.
