Gulping down of medicines just at the knock of a health malady is not really a good practice. Nevertheless, there are some natural herbal home remedies that can come handy and save you both from taking in of medicines and later recovering from their side effect or after effects. Below are most common health maladies and their home remedies to help you relieve yourself naturally.
The fresh juice extracted from the herb of Aloe vera is excellent remedy for this ailment. Take it 20 to 30 ml twice preferably on an empty stomach.
1. Juice of white pumpkin (20ml approx.) along with some coconut milk and mishri(crystalline sugar) added to it may be taken 2 or 3 times a day.
2. The juice extracted from Aamla fruit (Indian Gooseberry) is to be taken on an empty stomach in the morning in a dose of 10 to 20ml two or three times in a day.
3. Fresh juice extracted from the fruit of pomegranate is quite beneficial for the ailment of hyperacidity. Take it in moderate quantities twice a day.
4. For relieving acidity, you can also be taking coconut water twice or thrice a day.
1. Approx. six grams of garlic with equal quantities of jaggery pounded together can be taken at bedtime for relief.
2. Mix some juice extracted from betel leaf (5 to 10 ml approx.) with freshly ground basil, mint and ginger. Add about 4 to 5 pounded pepper corns to the paste. This preparation can be taken half a teaspoon twice mixed into some honey.
3. Prepare a decoction with ginger, basil and pepper. Take it warm twice a day mixed with half-teaspoon honey.
4. During the first stage of cold, when you are bound to suffer from continuous watery discharge from the nose, try this:Half a teaspoon of black pepper powder is to be boiled in a glass full of milk and taken warm at bedtime.
5. Running nose is an obvious symptom of the common cold. As a home remedy, you may get relief with steam inhalation from burning a piece of the herb tumeric.
1. A soft massage with powdered black pepper on the teeth and gums relieves pain.
2. Try a local massage with the powder of camphor.
3. You can either press the clove between the teeth or cotton dipped in clove oil into the dental crevice. This could relieve not only pain but also exhibits a germicidal action.
4. Powdered alum can be rubbed onto the gums and teeth to stay clear of the problems of toothache and bleeding gums.
5. Juice of ginger with honey mixed in it can be applied on the offending tooth for relief.
1. Make a mixture of pounded equal parts of the herbs of dried ginger and ajawain (Bishop’s weed) along with black salt. Take 1 gram twice with warm water after meals.
2. 2 – 3 cloves of Garlic along with warm water taken first thing in the morning proves beneficial.
3. Sprinkle a few drops of fresh lemon juice on a piece of ginger and add black salt. Take it with meals for a few days.
4. External application of the herb of Asafoetida on the umbilicus in case of abdominal discomfort caused by flatulence is of great help, especially for infants and small children.
5. When there is excessive production and expulsion of wind along with foul smell try this easy home remedy. Take 4 or 5 freshly grounded pepper along with a glassful of water with a few drops of lemon added to it, early morning on empty stomach.
How To Deal With Sweating and Body Odour
Sweating and body odor are facts of life for most people. Heavy perspiration and body odor can happen when you exercise, when you’re too warm, or when you’re nervous, anxious or under stress.
Unusual changes in sweating — either excessive perspiration (hyperhidrosis) or little or no perspiration (anhidrosis) — can be cause for concern. Likewise, changes in body odor may be a sign of a medical problem. Lifestyle and home treatments can usually manage symptoms caused by normal sweating and body odor effectively.
Some people naturally sweat more or less than other people. Body odor also can vary from person to person. See a doctor if:
• You suddenly begin to sweat much more or less than usual
• Sweating disrupts your daily routine
• You experience night sweats for no apparent reason
• You notice a change in your body odor
Your skin has two main types of sweat glands: eccrine glands and apocrine glands. Eccrine glands occur over most of your body and open directly onto the surface of the skin. Apocrine glands develop in areas abundant in hair follicles, such as your armpits and groin, and they empty into the hair follicle just before it opens onto the skin surface.
When your body temperature rises, your eccrine glands secrete fluid onto the surface of your skin, where it cools your body as it evaporates. This fluid is composed mainly of water and salt.
Apocrine glands produce a milky fluid that most commonly is secreted when you’re under emotional stress. This fluid is odorless until it combines with bacteria found normally on your skin.
Your doctor will ask about your medical history and conduct a physical exam. He or she may order blood or urine tests to determine if your problem is being caused by an underlying medical condition, such as an infection, diabetes or an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism).
• Antiperspirant. Antiperspirants contain aluminium-based compounds that temporarily block sweat pores, thereby reducing the amount of perspiration that reaches your skin.
• Deodorant. Deodorants can eliminate odor but not perspiration. They’re usually alcohol-based and turn your skin acidic, making it less attractive to bacteria. Deodorants often contain perfume fragrances intended to mask odor.
If over-the-counter antiperspirants don’t help control your sweating, your doctor may prescribe aluminum chloride (Drysol, Xerac AC).
Prescription antiperspirants are strong solutions that can cause red, swollen and itchy skin in some people. If irritation develops, wash the medication off in the morning.
Lifestyle and home remedies
You can do a number of things on your own to reduce sweating and body odor. The following suggestions may help:
• Bathe daily. Regular bathing, especially with an antibacterial soap, reduces the growth of bacteria on your skin.
• Choose clothing to suit your activity.
• For daily wear, choose natural fabrics, such as cotton, wool and silk. These allow your skin to breathe. For exercise wear, you might prefer synthetic fabrics developed to wick moisture away from your skin.
• Try relaxation techniques. Consider relaxation techniques, such as yoga, meditation or biofeedback. These practices can teach you to control the stress that triggers perspiration.
• Change your diet. Caffeinated beverages and spicy or strong-smelling foods may make you sweat more or have stronger body odor than usual. Eliminating these foods may help.
Contraception And Birth Control
Contraception, or birth control, also allows couples to plan the timing of pregnancy. Some methods can also protect against infections. Choosing a particular method of birth control depends on many factors, including a woman’s overall health, age, frequency of sexual activity, number of sexual partners, desire to have children in the future, and family medical history.
General methods of contraception include:
• Barrier—physically interferes with conception by keeping the egg and sperm apart
• Hormonal—regulates ovulation by changing the balance of hormones related to development and release of the egg; changes cervical mucus to impair sperm function or transport
• IUDs—small devices inserted into the uterus that change the conditions in the cervix and uterus to prevent pregnancy as well as inhibiting the transit of sperm from the cervix to the Fallopian tubes.
• Sterilization—surgical procedures that make a woman permanently unable to get pregnant and a man unable to get a woman pregnant.
Some forms of birth control combine methods, such as IUDs that also release hormones.
Some types of birth control may carry serious risks for some individuals. For specific information about birth control, individuals should talk to their health care providers.
Types of contraception
An intrauterine device (IUD), also known as an intrauterine system (IUS), is a small, T-shaped device that is inserted into the uterus to prevent pregnancy. A health care provider inserts the device. An IUD can remain in place and function effectively for many years at a time. After the recommended length of time, or when the woman no longer needs or desires contraception, a health care provider removes or replaces the device.
• A hormonal IUD or IUS releases a progestin hormone (levonorgestrel) into the uterus.3 The released hormone causes thickening of the cervical mucus, inhibits sperm from reaching or fertilizing the egg, thins the uterine lining, and may prevent the ovaries from releasing eggs. The failure rate of a hormonal IUS is less than 1%; however, a small percentage of women may experience expulsion of the device and have to have it reinserted.3 Some research also suggests that these IUDs maintain their effectiveness up to a year beyond their recommended use period.4 This method may also be used to treat heavy menstrual bleeding because the hormone often reduces or eliminates uterine bleeding.
• A copper IUD prevents sperm from reaching and fertilizing the egg, and it may prevent the egg from attaching in the womb.3 If fertilization of the egg does occur, the physical presence of the device prevents the fertilized egg from implanting into the lining of the uterus. The failure and expulsion/reinsertion rates of a copper IUD is similar to those of a hormonal IUD.3 Copper IUDs may remain in the body for 10 years.3 A copper IUD is not recommended for women who may be pregnant, have pelvic infections, or had uterine perforations during previous IUD insertions. It also is not recommended for women who have cervical cancer or cancer of the uterus, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or pelvic tuberculosis.
Implants are implantable rods. Each rod is matchstick-sized, flexible, and plastic. The method has a failure rate of less than 1%.3 A physician surgically inserts the rod under the skin of the woman’s upper arm.
The rod releases a progestin and can remain implanted for up to 5 years. Currently, Implanon® and Nexplanon®, which release etonogestrel, are the only implantable rods available in the United States. A two-rod method, Jadelle®, which releases levonorgestrel, is FDA approved but not currently distributed in America. A new levonorgestrel-releasing, two-rod method, Sino-implant (II)®, is in clinical development.
Short-Acting Hormonal Methods
Hormonal methods of birth control use hormones to regulate or stop ovulation and prevent pregnancy. Ovulation is the biological process in which the ovary releases an egg, making it available for fertilization. Hormones can be introduced into the body through various methods, including pills, injections, skin patches, transdermal gels, vaginal rings, intrauterine systems, and implantable rods. Depending on the types of hormones that are used, these methods can prevent ovulation; thicken cervical mucus, which helps block sperm from reaching the egg; or thin the lining of the uterus. Health care providers prescribe and monitor hormonal contraceptives.
Short-acting hormonal methods (e.g., injectables, pills, patches, rings) are highly effective if used perfectly, but in typical use, they have a range of failure rates.
• Injectable birth control. This method involves injection of a progestin, Depo-Provera® (depot medroxyprogesterone acetate [DMPA]), given in the arm or buttocks once every 3 months.5 This method of birth control can cause a temporary loss of bone density, particularly in adolescents. However, this bone loss is generally regained after discontinuing use of DMPA. Most patients using injectable birth control should eat a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D or take vitamin supplements while using this medication. A new self-injectable formulation of DMPA, Sayana® Press, is approved in the United Kingdom and is expected to be approved more widely in the near future. This subcutaneous injectable product has a lower amount of hormone and may be more acceptable for some users.
• Progestin-only pills (POPs). A woman takes one pill daily, preferably at the same time each day. POPs may interfere with ovulation or with sperm function. POPs thicken cervical mucus, making it difficult for sperm to swim into the uterus or to enter the fallopian tube. POPs alter the normal cyclical changes in the uterine lining and may result in unscheduled or breakthrough bleeding. These hormones do not appear to be associated with an increased risk of blood clots.

A young Naval Officer was in a terrible car accident, but due to the heroics of the hospital staff the only permanent injury was the loss of one ear. Since he wasn’t physically impaired he remained in the military and eventually became an Admiral. However, during his career he was always sensitive about his appearance. One day the Admiral was interviewing two Navy Master Chiefs and a Marine Gunnery Sergeant for his personal staff. The first Master Chief was a Surface Navy type and it was a great interview. At the end of the interview the Admiral asked him, “Do you notice anything different about me?” The Master Chief answered, “Why yes. I couldn’t help but notice you are missing your starboard ear, so I don’t know whether this impacts your hearing on that side.” The Admiral got very angry at this lack of tact and threw him out of his office. The next candidate, an Aviation Master Chief, when asked this same question, answered, “Well yes, you seem to be short one ear.” The Admiral threw him out also. The third interview was with the Marine Gunnery Sergeant. He was articulate, extremely sharp, and seemed to know more than the two Master Chiefs put together. The Admiral wanted this guy, but went ahead with the same question. “Do you notice anything different about me?” To his surprise the Gunnery Sergeant said, “Yes. You wear contact lenses.” The Admiral was impressed and thought to himself, what an incredibly tactful Marine. “And how do you know that?” the Admiral asked. The Gunny replied, “Well sir, it’s pretty hard to wear glasses with only one ear”.
