Kano State House of Assembly has impeached its speaker Alhaji Abdullahi Ata and has re-elected Alhaji Kabiru Rurum.
Alhaji Kabiru Rurum was the immediate-past speaker of the house, who was impeached over allegations of corruption.
The speaker was also impeached with two other principal officers of the assembly.
The motion for the impeachment was moved by Malam Labaran Madari representing Warawa constituency.
The state assembly was closed for two months after the threats to impeach the speaker but the issue was rested by the intervention of the state Government.
The house was shocked when the Deputy speaker resigned and was replaced with other principal officers, yet the impeachment threat was reopened upon its resumption.
The new speaker is already presiding over the assembly’s sitting which resumed on Monday, July 30, 2018 after a two months break.
