Independent National Electoral Comission (INEC) has reacted to the ruling of an Abuja federal high court which issued an arrest warrant on Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the electoral body saying that his non appearance at the court was not deliberate as he was outside the country.

The Publicity Director of the electoral body, Osaze-Uzzi, said  yakubu’s absence during the cross sessions stems from the fact that he was outside the country not out of disrespect for the court adding that he does not think Yakubu is in the country.
“It is a legal matter, which is under process and I cannot comment on it. I am not aware that Professor Yakubu is in the country,” Osaze-Uzzi said.
He added that “I don’t think he is in the country but I cannot comment on that. We have not been briefed by the lawyers. When I am briefed, the commission will issue a statement. But I have not been able to talk to either Professor Yakubu or the lawyers,”
