A seeming outlook of how the power battle in Nigeria will be in 2019, has started to play out in Cross River State, an emerging volatile state in Southern Nigeria.
Local sources in the state told Neptune prime on Monday that the foot soldiers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were locked in a bitter violent clashes on Sunday in Ohong, a local community in Obudu Local Government Area of the state leaving scores soaked in their own blood.
This is playing out as relationship between the two major political parties in the country gets frostier. They are at war for this August 11 bye-election to replace a late lawmaker, Stephen Ukpukpen in the state House of Assembly.
According to an eye-witness who says APC was busy campaigning in Ohong community and that when the PDP campaign train arrived the scene, the grass suffered as the two giant political elephants flexed their physical muscles.
From the political divide, no one could give an exact account of what triggered the clash in Ohong. But, Governor Ben Ayade’s aide on Youth Mobilisation, Emmanuel Utande who was on the PDP campaign train is claiming that the APC blocked their way.
Local APC operatives in the area who did not want their names in print say the Governor Ayade aide is economical with the truth.
Fact is, as the build up to 2019 gathers more steam, tension tends to boil over in APC and PDP. With the way the party leaders are hitting up the polity, there is no grantee at the moment that 2019 would be peaceful.
