The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmad Bola Tinubu has assured President Muhammadu Buhari of successful outing come 2019 general polls.
Tinubu who made the remark yesterday while addressing a special stakeholders meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, also blamed the state of affairs in Nigeria on the former leader, who he accused of not leading Nigeria well while at the helm of affairs.
“Obasanjo has spent his own time and as such, he should leave Buhari alone and face his business because he cannot tell us who to vote for. The former president is part of the challenges we are facing in the country presently and that is because he did not lay the right foundation when he was president,” he said.
Tinubu added that the exit of some members from the APC would also not stop the re-election of President Buhari.
The APC leader condemned what he called the frequent attacks on Buhari-led administration by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He said that the criticisms of Obasanjo were in bad faith, pointing out that he could not stop Nigerians from re-electing the president. “Our president has done well, he deserves another term, and we will support him to win. “Forget about Obasanjo’s letter and his frequent attacks president Buhari, he cannot stop the president because Nigerians would re-elect him.
Tinubu, who switched between Yoruba and English languages, said having brought Buhari in, the party would also ensure his re-election next year, notwithstanding Obasanjo’s opposition.
He commended the National Chairman of the party, Mr Adams Oshiomole, saying members were pleased with what he was doing in the party.
He said that the direct primary system was good for democracy, and the party would adopt it to conduct its primaries.
Tinubu urged members to play by the rules in electing candidates at the primaries.
He urged the members to mobilise others to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards as that was necessary for victory in 2019.
Present at the meeting were Governor Akinwunmi Ambode; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa; the Chairman of the Lagos State APC, Tunde Balogun, and other party loyalists in Lagos.
The Leader further reprimanded former President Olusegun Obasanjo for his frequent attacks on the government of Buhari.
Tinubu stated that the criticism of the former president are worthless as they would not debar Nigerians from voting for Buhari.
