Son of a late former governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Akeem Lawal, Ibrahim Mera has declared his intention to contest in the 2019 governorship election.
Alhaji Ibrahim Mera, a retired Deputy Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service and brother to the current Emir of Argungu, Dr Samaila Mera, declared his intention on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi at the state APC secretariat.
Mera will likely battle for the party’s endorsement with the governor of the state, Atiku Bagudu, who is serving his first term in office.
Speaking when he was received by his supporters on arrival in Ilorin, the son of governor Mohammed Lawal said his intention to run was a call to service.
“My desire to contest the seat was born out of the love I have for my people.
The governorship aspirant, who said Kwara State could only be taken to a greater level of development with ideas from the youth, added that he was prepared to inject youthful energy and ideas that would change the fortunes of the state.
