From Fatima Bukar, Abuja
An associate of the famous Kaduna Islamic scholar, Shiekh Ahmad Algarkawy who was yesterday kidnapped by gunmen alongside some of his students said that up till now the el-Rufai led government has neither contacted the scholar’s family nor sympathize with them over the tragic incident.
The associate, Mallam Muhammad Umar who is one of the closest confidants of the abducted scholar told our reporter in a phone chat that despite the out-pour of public indignation and sympathy shown to the family within and outside Nigeria, Kaduna state government which should have been the first to show concern, has left the family and the teeming supporters of the Shiekh obfuscated and frustrated.
He noted that the attitude of the state government over the fate of one of its illustrious sons who has contributed to socio-economic development of the area in no small measure shows that the government does not take the welfare and other concerns of its citizenry with relevance.
Umar regretted that while the governor only directs his energy on his reelection bid, he seemingly developed lethargy about the security of the citizens, making bandits and all sort of criminals to hold the state by the jugular.
He said at a time when all hands were supposed to be on deck to arrest the seeming security drift in the state by the government; the lackluster attitude of the government towards the general welfare of the people has made the citizens to completely lose hope in the government.
Umar added that the abducted cleric has been contributing to the development of the state through his preaching and the operations of a farm which has yielded skills to hundreds of people across the state noting that a serious, responsible and conscientious government shouldn’t have wasted a minute without launching a rescue operation.
He thanked Nigerian’s and the international community who have been calling, praying and sympathizing with the family noting that such display of camaraderie was the only relief that kept the family going as the trial lasted.
Umar added that up till now, the fate of the cleric is still shrouded in uncertainty as the kidnappers were yet to contact the family of the abducted scholar.
