The Comptroller of the Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mr Joshua Ajisafe, on Thursday at Jibiya, revealed that his command had, in 2018, seized 430 voter cards and 192 National Identification slips from non-Nigerians.
He made the revelation during the inauguration of the ‘Forward Operational Border Patrol Base’ where he reeled out the various achievements of the command.
The patrol base was inaugurated by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Dr Muhammed Bello, who stood in for the minister, Lt. Gen. Abdurrahman Dambazzau.
Ajisafe said his command also, in the year, intercepted 10 suspected human traffickers and rescued 162 trafficked victims.
He added that the command was also able to curtail the influx of irregular immigrants into the country with the help of Border Corps Officers deployed to man some of the illegal routes and the establishment of two hinterland checkpoints at Charanchi and Kankara highways.
He said, “A total of 1,203 non-Nigerians were refused admission into the country for lack of travel documents and a total of 411 Nigerians were refused departure for not having valid travel documents.
“Similarly, 729 irregular migrants were repatriated.
“The Command recorded a total of 176,724 valid travel document holders on arrival into the country, while 49,780 valid travel document holders departed the country.”
Ajisafe thanked both the Minister of Interior and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service for the support being given the command.
He gave the assurance that his officers and men would not relent in their efforts.
