Many kill in Nasarawa gas explosion

Many yesterday feared dead with 40 others hospitalised with various degrees of injuries following a gas explosion at Monaco Gas Station situated in the premises of Natson Petroleum Nig. Ltd., in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.
The incident occurred when the gas station owners attempted to refill their commercial cylinder.
Many others were severely burnt in the incident as efforts to quench the fire proved abortive.
A medical personnel at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist hospital, who spoke to Neptune Prime on condition of anonymity, said the victims were brought in unconscious and naked.
Management of the hospital declined comment on the number of casualties brought in.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ismaila Usman, said the command had received a report on the incident, adding that the casualty figure had yet to be ascertained.
He said. “Investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the level of casualties.”
The Nasarawa State Fire Service declined comment, saying it was still investigating the cause of the fire.
