The Victims Support Fund (VSF) on Thursday, August 30, 2018 inaugurated public structures worth N180m in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government, Yobe.
Buni Yadi was one of the local governments captured by the insurgents on February 25, 2014, and where about 60 boys were murdered by terrorists in attack on the Federal Government College in the town.
Professor Sunday Ochoche, VSF Executive Director, said at the event that the gesture was aimed at helping the local people who are affected by the insurgency.
The VSF’s mission is to restore the dignity and wellbeing of victims of terrorism and insurgency across the country.
The entire gamut of projects in Buni Yadi which cost over N180m is geared towards the re-establishment of local governance and the restoration of basic social amenities in the affected areas and the state entirely.
The reconstructed structures at the Local Government Secretariat include the main Secretariat complex, Agric Department, Primary Healthcare Department, Local Education Authority Department and Fire Service Units.
Likewise, at the General Hospital, Buni Yadi, the Amenity and Antenatal Ward, three blocks of seven bedrooms, two blocks of three bedrooms and seven blocks of two bedrooms at the staff quarters were reconstructed.
Ochoche added that VSF also reconstructed two blocks of three classrooms, eight blocks of two classrooms and one block of four classrooms at Buni Yadi primarily school among other projects.
He disclosed that the second phase of VSF programme in the state, which is worth N1.5 billion would also focus on critical infrastructure in the state. While expressing appreciation for the state government’s full support, Ochoche reassured that VSF would continue to bring succour to victims across the country and to ensure that all resources are utilized judiciously.
