The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the killing of the five cattle traders in an attack carried out by suspected militiamen in Pasham, a village in Bali District of Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Spokesman of the command, SP Othman Abubakar, said Tuesday that preliminary investigation had indicated that the attack was carried out by some militias from around the area of the ambush.
It was gathered gathered that the incident took place Monday morning when the traders who were mostly cattle merchants travelling in a truck to the Iwere International Cattle Market located in Taraba State ran into an ambush by the militiamen in Pasham.
Sources close to the scene said the militiamen were on a revenge mission and always waylaid their victims in similar missions on the Numan-Jalingo highway.
A witness of the Monday incident said that of the travellers in the ill-fated truck, while the five unlucky traders were ‘slaughtered like chickens,’ four were seriously wounded and many fled to nearby bushes.
“Five people were killed in the attack. No arrest has been made but a half unit of over 30 mobile policemen has been deployed and they have ensured law and order there.
“Normalcy has returned to the area”, Abubakar said.
