In his efforts to industrialise Yobe State and empower its citizens, the state governor, His Excellency Mai Mala Buni, has resuscitated the Damaturu Woven Sacks Factory which has been comatose for eight years as a result of outdated and nonfunctional equipment as well as operational, managerial and administrative challenges.

So far, according to Neptune Prime’s investigation, this is the third state-owned factory resuscitated by the governor five months in office. The others are Yobe Flour and Feed Mills Potiskum, and the Yobe Aluminum Company.

According to Engr Shuaibu Gadaka, the General Manager of the Woven Sacks Factory, the old and moribund equipment have been replaced and others overhauled and that in the next two weeks, all raw materials needed for the production would be supplied.

While explaining that the GT line known as extruder or producing unit, hangers, looms or woven machines, sack lamination machine, belling machine, four colour producing machine and control panel of the factory are all functional and ready for production, the factory’s general manager revealed that the resuscitation followed an approval of N78.7m by the governor for equipment purchase after he visited and inspected the factory in July this year.

He also added that the governor has made provision for a new digital 500KVA electric power generating set for the factory in addition to connecting it to the national grid with the new 500KVA capacity transformer installed at the factory.

He commended Governor Mai Mala Buni administration for resuscitating the state-owned industries, saying this would support employment generation and help fight insecurity as jobs will be provided for the youths and also enhance revenue generation in the state.

According to Dr Musa Mohammed, an economic consultant with the World Bank, such projects can be catalysts of catapulting the state into the league of states in Nigeria that generate huge internally generated revenues and also provide employment for their youths.
