The Managing Director of Bauchi state water Corporation engineer Aliyu Aminu Gital has explained that over one million people are expected to benefit from the expansion and on going rehabilitation of Bauchi Water urban water projects.
Gital stated this yesterday in Bauchi when he interacted with reporters , he said the World Bank is supporting the state government to reactivate, rehabilitate and expand the water supply scheme of Bauchi metropolis.
This is because the capacity of the existing facilities cannot supply the water demand of the metropolis, rehabilitating and expanding the facilities will enable us to provide enough water supply for the metropolis, not just now but up to 2027. We have now reached the point where we lay down water pipes which will cover over 167 kilometers.
He said we have completed the laying down of water pipes in some GRAs in Sokoto, Kano, and kaduna road in old GRA, we have also laid down pipes in State low cost, though we have challenges in laying the pipes from Gubi dam to town, because in some areas there are rocks that we are still working on destroying before laying down our water pipes.
Gital said presently the population of Bauchi people is between 600,000 to 650,000 and since the project will reach 2027 we estimate that by that time the population will reach over one million and sixty people.
On the repair of electric poles destroyed by windstorm, the General manager said they are working hard on the project as directed by the state governor as part of our corporate social responsibility, we have already repaired classrooms that were blown up by the windstorm.
Gital advised the people of the state to cooperate with the corporation in it’s effort to ensure the success of the exercise to enable Bauchi community to have required portable water.
