Gov. Buni commences empowerment training for 680 youths, women

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has kicked-off a training scheme on text coat emulsion and paint production for 680 youths and women in Damaturu.

Speaking at the opening programme in Damaturu on Thursday, Buni said the training was part of the state government’s empowerment policies.

Represented by his deputy, Alhaji Idi Gubana, the governor said that the move would curb unemployment in the state.

He said that the programme was being funded by the 17 local government councils in the state.

“A total of 680 beneficiaries are involved, 40 of them were chosen from each local government area.

“The objective of this initiative is to equip beneficiaries with skills capable of helping them set up their own businesses,” he said.

Also speaking, Alhaji Ibrahim Abba, Permanent Secretary,  Ministry Local Government, and Chieftaincy Affairs, described the programme as one that would make the beneficiaries self-reliant.

In his remarks, Alhaji Abdul Wakili, Managing Director, Golden Concept Limited said the training programme would be very effective.

“At the end of the programme, the trainees will not only become self-employed but employers of labour,” he said.
