The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed the killing of at least five persons – two village heads, the chairman of a vigilante group and two other persons – by unknown gunmen in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area.
A resident, Sunday Danladi, said that the gunmen, numbering about 30, invaded the two communities of Bilango 1 and Bilango 2 on Tuesday evening armed with AK47 rifles in the old Muri area.
He claimed that the unknown gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers were on a retaliation mission over the killing of their members by some hunters and vigilante in the area.
The traditional rulers killed were identified as Garba Dangari, the village head of Bilango 1, and Sarki Ali, the village head of Bilango 2.
The spokesman of the police in the state, David Misal, said that some armed officials have been deployed to the area for proper investigation of the attack, but no suspect has been arrested.
