Two Kaduna lecturers, who are siblings, abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly escaped from their captors. They were abducted at Mahuta in Igabi Local Government Area of the state six days ago.
The two kidnapped lecturers, Dr. Adamu Chonoko from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and Umar Chonoko, from Kaduna Polytechnic, escaped on Sunday. The two lecturers hail from Kebbi State.
Dr. Adamu Chonoko was the first to be kidnapped by the gunmen while Umar, who acted as the ransom bearer, who went to deliver the N2m and a new motorbike demanded by the abductors, was later kidnapped by the gunmen. The abductors later demanded an additional N5m before they could be set free. However, on Sunday, the kidnapped siblings escaped.
In a phone conversation with Neptune Prime, one of the victims, Umar Chonoko said they escaped from them in the night while the abductors were drunk and sleeping.
“We escaped from their Camp around 11 pm through the bush along Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna state. The kidnappers chained us, covered our faces but we escaped when they got drunk and fell asleep”, he added.
The abductors said that the kidnappers did not go to school, they are not used to any social amenities. There is a need for the government to intervene on the issue so that the kidnappings stops across the country.
