From HUSSAINI MUHAMMAD BABA , Potiskum
Yobe State Board of Internal Revenue Service has recently sealed over 100 private schools, private clinics and filling stations within the state as a result of their nonpayment of tax to the government.
According to a staff of the board who pleaded anonymity, notification letters were sent since July, 2019 and the decision of government was announced for two days in the town to enable everybody comply and pay but they did not.
Speaking to a teacher in Alfurkan learners academy, Umar Faruk Ibrahim said they did not receive any notification from the board on the intentions of the government. He said, ‘the letter did not reach us and they just came and sealed our school and asked our students to go home’.
A Staff of Potiskum Medical Clinic, Mr. Baba Amos while speaking to our correspondent said “we did not pay the tax for just 3 months and they came and locked our clinic”.
Amos therefore pleaded that government look into the issues, reconsider the affected schools, clinics and re-open the sealed facilities, considering the ongoing hardship in the country.
