The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection to molestation and rape of a nine year old girl (name withheld) including her stepfather.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Abdulmalik Abdulhafeez made the confirmation on Tuesday in Damaturu.
“The suspect is not one person they are four in number, the ex-husband of the victim’s mother and three others who are already in police custody and investigation is going on.
“Any moment the matter will be taken to the court after all the investigation has been concluded”, Abdulhafeez said.
According to him, the suspects were Yarima Yakubu, the stepfather of the victim, Usaini Zauna, Muhammed Garba and Muhammed Sabo, all of them residents of Babban Tsangaya area of Damaturu.
On her own part, the mother of the victim, Zara Usman, said the ex-husband, Yarima Yakubu, lured the girl to a house at Babban Tsangaya where she was raped.
She added that her daughter was confirmed HIV positive by Damaturu Specialist Hospital as a result of which she has stopped going to school.
She called on authorities and stakeholders to ensure justice for daughter.
“Because of my poor condition, I cannot do anything on the matter except to leave things to God but want the state government to take over the case”, she said.
