Barely 24 hours after attempting to infiltrate Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, where they lost not less 30 of their men, ambushing a humanitarian convoy where they abducted two female Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) staff and killing three people along Monguno road in Borno State, Boko Haram elements have attacked Biu town in Biu Local Government of Borno at around 7pm.

A resident of Biu, Malam Birma, told Neptune Prime that the insurgents are at the outskirts of the town “but men and youths” of the second largest and most populous town in Borno “are all out patrolling the streets of the town”.

However, Joel Ibrahim, another resident, opined to Neptune Prime that the insurgents could be remnants of those who attacked Damaturu yesterday who got engaged by the army manning a checkpoint at the entrance of the town.

It will be recalled that some five years ago, Boko Haram insurgents invaded the town in about thirteen Toyota Hilux vehicles but the residents came out enmasse and took the fight to them, killing all with only about two of the vehicles with their drivers escaping.

Biu town, which is like a fortress surrounded by hills with only three entrances, has not been attacked since then until today.

Another source however revealed to us that calm has returned to the town.

Many people of Borno and Yobe are afraid that the insurgents may want to make a statement by showing that they are “still around and strong” this yuletide period by increasing the frequency of their attacks and most likely laying ambush on the road linking the two states.
