Karim Benzema will be a Real Madrid player until at least 2022 after the French striker reached an agreement with the club.

The deal will be officially signed in the summer and extends his time with Los Blancos by one year as his current deal expires in 2021.

As well as the further 12 months, Benzema will also get an improved wage to give his jump in importance within the Real Madrid squad over recent seasons.

At the minute, Benzema doesn’t want to pen any long contracts with the club and would rather take things in small increments so he isn’t in a position where he is in Madrid but can’t give his best.

The French striker has just turned 32 and in June 2022 when the new contract ends, he will be 34.

Real Madrid considers the player to be a key component of the team and has taken into account his performances this season, in which he is the top scorer and face of the side.

The relationship between Benzema and the club is exceptional, with president Florentino Perez being a great admirer of the No.9.
