An armoured tank belonging to the Nigerian military and used in the battle against insurgents caught fire and caused explosions on Monday, December 30, in Damaturu, Yobe state.
The report said there was confusion across Damaturu, the state capital following the explosions. It said many residents scampered for safety in the heat of the confusion.
It also quoted a witness as saying the incident happened opposite the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu as the soldiers were on their way back to base.
