Governor Mai Mala Buni has paid an unscheduled visit to the construction site of the Damaturu Ultra-Modern Market to see first-hand the progress of work there.
The governor was also at the new NYSC Orientation Camp provided and upgraded by the state government at Dazigau Village near Potiskum for the conduct of orientation programs for Youth Corps members.
At the Damaturu Modern Market, the governor was received and briefed by the Commissioner of Commerce Hon. Barma Shettima and by the Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Hon Goni Bukar Lawan at the NYSC Camp in Dazigau.
Gov. Buni expressed satisfaction with the progress of work at the market, saying the construction jobs that the project offers gladdens the heart.
“We are here to see for ourselves the level of progress though, it is a surprise visit. I am satisfied with what I saw. Looking at the pace of work, I am confident that the project, will be completed within the specified period”, the governor said.
The Commissioner for Commerce Barma Shettima assured the governor that the project was moving on schedule and according to the contract agreement signed with the contractor. “We working round the clock to ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated period and without compromising standard and quality”, he said.
At the new NYSC Camp at Dazigau, Governor Buni also commended the renovation and upgrade of the facility provided to host NYSC Orientation programs going forward.
He directed the Commissioner of Youth and Sports, who conducted him around the camp, to put forward to his desk any pending requests for furniture and other items needed to get the place up and running.
“We are all aware that security was the reason why we decided to relocate the NYSC orientation camp from its permanent site to this location. Since we have decided to do that, we have to strive to ensure that everything that is needed to make our NYSC Corps members comfortable is provided… I want to direct the commissioner of the ministry to come up with all the necessary requirements that will make our Corps Members comfortable in the orientation camp”, he said.
