The Yobe State Fire Service Station Officer, Usman Habu, said the fire outbreak that claimed the life of the mother and her three daughters occurred around 11:00 pm on Tuesday.
“We were informed about the fire outbreak incident in ‘Red Bricks’ quarters, Maiduguri Road, Damaturu around 11:00 pm.
“As we arrived at the scene, the father of the victims Malam Adamu Aliyu in an effort to rescue his family, he threw out his five-year-old son Faruq Aliyu from a story building.
“The fire then overpowered and prevented him from rescuing his wife, Halima Usman, he, therefore, managed to jump.
“After we forcefully broke the door, we recovered a dead body of a woman and three of her daughters.
Malama Binta Muhammed, one of the neighbors and a friend to the family told our reporter that the three daughters were Aisha Aliyu ten-year-old, Saadatu Aliyu eight-year-old and Safiya Aliyu two-year-old.” she said.
Dr. Istifanu Dauda of Damaturu Specialist Hospital also confirms that a patient was brought with a flamed bone and was receiving medical attention.
“According to the report that I was given by the doctor that was on call last night, there were people that lost their lives in the incident.
“According to the report, there was only one survivor in that family apart from the person that is currently on admission”, Dr. Dauda stated.
Fire Service Station Officer, Usman Habu drew the attention of the general public to always make provision of an exit door and also to switch all electric gadgets and switches at night.
“If there were an ‘escape door’, the man could have saved his family’s lives.
