SPEECH BY THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT, ALUMNI – INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ISLAMIC BANKING AND FINANCE, BAYERO UNIVERSITY, KANO, ALH. AHMAD SULEIMAN GIMBA, DURING A COURTESY VISIT TO SARKIN KANO, HRH ALH. (DR.) MUHAMMADU SUNUSI II.
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah Your Royal Highness. Allah Ya kara wa Sarki daraja, da daukaka, farin jini da muhibba, imani da taimakon al’umma.
This is the first time the Executives of this alumni is coming to meet with Your Royal Highness. Therefore this is a very important visit and indeed a gracious one.
Your Royal Highness is not only familiar with Islamic banking and finance, but he is part and parcel of it. Secondly, as a Chancellor in some universities, Mai Martaba is a father to Alumni Associations and indeed other associations related to the universities. By coming here, we are thus at home and before our father and guardian. Allah Ya ja zamanin Sarki.
This Alumni, Your Royal Highness, is the peak association of those who passed academically through the International Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, Bayero University Kano, existing alone in West Africa.
The Alumni unite its members through various programmes, promoting their abilities and capabilities where possible, scouting for employment opportunities, applying the necessary cosmetics to keep their image and outlook popular and excellent, and also intimating them to be resounding and far-reaching every time so as to send signals that Islamic banking and finance is the positive and fair economic way out, for all human beings. Allah Ya kara wa Sarki daraja.
This Alumni Association is young, approximately two years old. With its own challenges which makes it uneasy to perform excellently. But the challenges are common and the same facing sister Associations or Unions nationwide.
In spite of our challenges, we averagely perform dutifully, actively and patriotically. We observe our society closely and reciprocate in various endeavours.
The result of one of the observations is what we want to actualize and make it a notable point in the history of Islamic banking and finance in Nigeria.
His Royal Highness Alh. Muhammadu Sunusi II as we observed, is a proven excellent personality. He is knowledgeable in Al-Qur”an, Hadith of the Noble Rasulullah, he is learned in fiqh, he leads the Juma’at prayer himself, he is the person who helped in the Central Bank of Nigeria in initiating and approving the application of Islamic banking and finance and now we have Islamic banks, he is a member in different international Islamic finance bodies, apart from his academic contributions in journals, lectures, workshops and conferences, nationally and internationally.
During our last Executive meeting, we agreed and confer the prestigious “Father of Islamic Banking and Finance” on His Royal Highness Sarkin Kano, Alh. (Dr.) Muhammadu Sunusi II, and today, we come to present to him the Award, Insha Allah.
