Dr Aliyu Chikaji, a lecturer in Yobe State University said that Fast Money Syndrome among students was increasing and becoming alarming and needed to be a course for concern.
Chikaji stated this on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, in a symposium organised by Yobe State Scholarship Board and National Union of Yobe State Students (NUYOSS) in Damaturu.
He described the habit as “Shady investments or activities engaged by students in order to get money within a very short period of time.” A deadly socio-ethical problem in Nigerian that makes students demand instant result which makes youths give in to short cuts through nefarious activities in order to get rich.
Chikaji noted that the kind of friends one keeps matters, saying “These friends can influence the people around them in a negative or positive manner.”
He advised youths to explore their talents and utilise them properly and also called on parents to caution their children not get involved in illegal activities just to make fast money.
Dr Abubakar Kagu, the Executive Director Yobe State Scholarship Board, in his remarks, applauded NUYOSS for their commitment and dedication to organise such an important occasion.
Hafsat Yusuf, the NUYOSS Vice President stated that their decision to come up with the idea to organise the event was informed by the need to enlighten their fellow students on the challenges ahead of them as leaders of tomorrow.
She also commented on the Yobe State Scholarship Board for its support.
