Usman Dalhatu, a 200 level student of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who went viral for producing a locally made ventilator has transformed his emergency ventilator idea into a portable E-vent automatic ventilator.

Usman released photos of the upgrade yesterday on his Twitter page. It is a special ultra-modern portable E-vent automatic ventilator he calls Respire-19.

Usman Dalhatu, the 200 level student of Mechanical Engineering, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who hails from Gombe State, is obviously working round the clock to see that Nigeria has a fighting chance against this virus that has crippled developed countries by showing we can produce the equipments needed to curb out this pandemic locally.

Recall that Usman Dalhatu became a social media sensation when he partnered with other innovators to build a locally made ventilator that was presented to Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state.

His partners on the maiden innovation were Dr. Yunusa Muhammad Garba of the Human Anatomy Department, Gombe State University and Aliyu Hassan, a graduate of Mechatronics Engineering. The three of them all partnered to produce the locally made ventilator.

While receiving the trio, the Gombe state Governor, Yahaya Inuwa, praised them and said he would assist them in whatever way possible to get a patent for the work, so as to protect the plans and the work from poachers.

The governor also said that the secretary to the state government and the commissioner of science, technology and innovation will both work with the presidential task force on COVID-19 to make sure the young engineers get the attention they deserve.

Muhammad also spoke about how the state is putting together a plan to showcase innovators like them from Gombe to the world.

The reception the engineers had was made known in a statement by Ismalla Uba Misilli, the senior special assistant on media and publicity to the governor.
