Barely 48 hours after the wedding of Zainab Abdullahi Yahaya, the new wife of the Comptroller General of Customs, Colonel Hameed Ali (rtd.), her former fiance, Zubairu Dalhatu Malamai, who claimed he had contractual marriage agreement with her and has, as a result, invested almost N10 million in her, has threatened to take her to court if she did not settle all the expenses he incurred on her.
This shocking demand from the lawyers of Mr Zubairu Malamai, Buba Partners, at a time the couple is supposed to be celebrating their honeymoon, came as a result of Malamai’s complain that Zainab Abdullahi Yahaya had been deceiving him for long and that because of her commitment and promised to marry him he has spent a lot of money on her and her parents.

Zubairu said he decided to instruct his lawyers to write to Zainab because even after deciding to marry another man, she insulted him few days to her marriage with Col Ali and even asked him to calculate whatever he spent on her for repayment.
In the letter of demand, Zubairu had requested the immediate repayment of the expenses he said he incurred for Zainab’s trip to Saudi Arabia, the UAE as well as a loan and house rent he paid for Zainab’s father. He also among others demanded the repayment of the money he gave for the payment of her shop rent at Haneefa Plaza as well as the money he borrowed to her father.
He also requested the payment of the money he allegedly gave her for her China trip, for the purchase of her car and for what he called kayan lefe etc.
In a phone interview with Neptune Prime, Barrister Ibrahim Isa Wangida, Malamai’s attorney, disclosed that the ultimatum given has lapsed and that “the next logical course is legal action.”
While explaining that though he personally served Zainab with the demand letter, he was “not responsible for its leakage”, Barrister Wangida promised to pursue the right if his client until victory “because based on Islamic Law, he is entitled for a refund since she was the one that broke a promise made”.
