The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Bauchi, Dr Abubakar Sirimbai Sheikh Dahiru has explained his determination to terminate all contracts awarded but was not executed by the contractors four years after it was awarded.
Dr Abubakar stated this yesterday in Bauchi at the bids opening ceremony for the 2019/2020 UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects.
He said it’s disheartening that some contractors who were awarded a contract for the supply of furniture in the 2014/2015 UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects in the year 2016 did not carry out the project.
“Every kobo spent from the public purse will be accounted for and we will follow due process and revoke the work”, he said.
He advised the contractors who will be awarded 2019 /2020 contracts to ensure speedy completion of all the projects within the stipulated period.
The Chairman said the opening bid ceremony was done in a low key due to COVID-19 pandemic and assured that the board will not accept non-quality jobs. He also warned that any contractor that didn’t execute his projects according to specifications will not like his reaction.
Dr Abubakar said that last year under the UBEC /SUBEB projects, N5.5 billion contracts were awarded and over 700 classroom blocks were neither constructed nor renovated, and this year N3.5 billion contracts will be awarded to only qualified contractors.
Usama Aliyu Wunti, Chairman SUBEB contractors assured their readiness to execute quality work by justifying the confidence placed on them as part of their contribution to the development of education in the state.
He expressed confidence that the projects will help small contractors boost their businesses and will reduce lack of menial jobs in the state.
