Peace Mission: Ex-President Jonathan arrives Bamako, joins PMB, 5 other leaders

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has arrived Bamako, Mali, on a mediation mission alongside a team of the Economic Community of West Africa State (ECOWAS).

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived the country earlier alongside other African heads of states which includes President Alassane Ouattara of Ivory Coast, Macky Sall of Senegal, Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger and Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana.

The five leaders were received by Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

The mission to defuse the unrest in the Sahelian country had the backing of the Economic Community of West African States.

Jonathan who is an ECOWAS Envoy announced his arrival through his social media pages on Thursday.

“I arrived Bamako this morning, the second time I will be visiting Mali with my Ecowas_Cedeao team on a mediation mission in a week.

I am happy that we are being joined here in Bamako today by a High-Level Mission of five West African Heads of State who are visiting Mali to hold further consultations with Malian stakeholders.

“I am quite hopeful that the political crisis in Mali will soon be resolved.
