Police in Bauchi rescue boy, 6, from kidnappers, arrest 32 for other crimes

Bauchi State Police Command has rescued a six-year-old boy identified as Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq, from kidnappers.

It also arrested 32 suspects in connection with different crimes of kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, hard drugs dealing, culpable homicide, and other heinous offences including possessions of locally made prohibited firearms.

The State Police Commissioner, Lawal Tanko Jimeta stated this Thursday when he paraded the suspects before newsmen in Bauchi.

He said, “Operatives of State Intelligence Bureau, Bauchi, arrested two suspected dealers of crack cocaine, namely; Chigozie Oje, 32, of Awala roundabout, Bauchi town and Faruk Yakubu, 25, of Wunti Street, Bauchi town. Nine grams of the crack cocaine was recovered in their possession.

Jimeta said they also arrested five suspects parading themselves as Police officers on an investigation. Upon investigation, they confessed that they purposely came to Bauchi to defraud one Alhaji Ya’u Shehu B. Karatu.

He said the Police recovered exhibits from the suspects that included one cap decorated with Police logo, one facemask decorated with Police logo, one handcuff, one Ford Motor vehicle with registration number – AAA 759 CY, Lagos State, red in colour, one Dangote group identity card bearing Ahmad Nura and two Police warrant cards.

The Commissioner said, “One Abdullahi Yahaya of Shehu Usman Wunti Housing Estate Bauchi, reported to the Police that a group of people numbering about five, armed with guns, knives and machetes stormed their area in an attempt to commit armed robbery.

“A patrol team were drafted to the scene and they arrested one of the attackers by name Abdulrazak Sale of Karofin Madaki Ward, Bauchi, and recovered one locally-made gun and two knives in a sack bag.

“Interrogation also revealed the members of their gangs as Ismaila Adamu ‘AKA’ Maigalati; Sangami Scorpion; Mamman Daso; Usman Arrow; Yusuf Abdullahi ‘AKA’ Kolina and Abba Laba all of Bauchi Metropolis.

“Also, on the 07/08/2020 the said Ismail Adamu and Yusuf Abdullahi was arrested and they confessed to have engaged in the crime. Efforts to get the fleeing suspects arrested is on-going”.

Jimeta said a complainant, Yakubu Bala of Anguwan Rafin Sanyi Soro, Ganjuwa Local Government Area, came to Soro Police station with a wound on his head and hand to report that when he and his family were asleep, suddenly one Ibrahim Garba of Soro Village armed with a cutlass broke into his bedroom and demanded for money and handset from him, that if he fails to give him any of them, he will kill him.

Yakubu further stated that when he told him he doesn’t have money or handset, he used the cutlass in his possession and stabbed him, as a result, he sustained serious injuries.

Receiving the report, a team of policemen was drafted to the scene while the victim was rushed to PHC Soro for medical treatment. Meanwhile, a suspect was arrested.

The Commissioner said all the suspects will be charged to court after the investigation.
