African Investors in Diaspora Association (AIDA) has decried unlawful detention, illegal and forceful bank transfer of one hundred and ninety-seven million four hundred thousand naira (N197, 400,000) from its partners Dr Philemon Gora, Tobechukwu Osigwe and Dr Festus Udoh through first bank account number 2035180511 Utako, Abuja by one DSP Baba Barau and United Bank for Africa (UBA).
According to investigations, Dr Philemon Ibrahim Gora and Tobechukwu Osigwe were arrested and detained sometimes on the 8th day of July 2020, while Dr. Festus Udoh was equally arrested and detained on the 14th day of August 2020 based on a complaint made by United Bank For Africa PLC., to the Nigerian Police Force, FCT, Police Command, Abuja, concerning unsolicited money mistakenly transferred to an individual account belonging to Mr Tobechukwu Osigwe who seldom work with Dr Philemon Ibrahim Gora over some couple of online investments received an unsolicited sum of Four Hundred and Eighty-Five Million Naira only (N485,000, 000.00) without a designated narration with a mistaken belief.
Two weeks after receipt of the said monies that one Mr Darlington contacted Mr Tobechukwu Osigwe that the said money under reference was from him while showing transaction receipt but unfortunately, our client who had thought the monies came from their anticipated source had disbursed same to a long awaiting Investors especially following already prepared payment schedule of Investors but promised to refund within a record time.
Shockingly, both Mr Tobechukwu Osigwe and Dr Philemon Ibrahim Gora were later arrested again by the Anti-Fraud Section of the FCT Police Command where Dr Philemon Gora and Mr Tobechukwu Osigwe were kept in detention for almost two (2) months wherein their statements were taken in the manner of a question and answer session while disallowing their lawyers from accessing them despite the frantic legal effort to grant them bail on very feasible terms. A copy of the letter for their bail condition waiver is attached and marked “Exhibit A”.
In what seems to be a broad day robbery, while in detention, some police officers in charge of the investigation over the allegations of the UBA made it a condition of bail of Dr Gora to sign off some monies in the account of AIDA referred above simply because they saw a credit alert of a transaction in Dr Gora’s phone of the monies paid into the AIDA’s account with First Bank forced Dr Philemon Ibrahim Gora to authorize the transfer of the sum of N199,000, 000.00 belonging to Onose Deep Oil & Gas limited which is way unrelated to the investigation nor a proceed of the allegation of the crime.
Conclusively, with a view to having justice to this illegality, African Investors in Diaspora Association (AIDA) direct the immediate transfer and take-over of the above subject–matter and the case file by the Commissioner of Police Legal at the Force Headquarters or any other office, reverse the sum of (N197, 400,000) one hundred and ninety-seven million four hundred thousand naira only forcefully transferred to the United Bank for Africa Plc’s account number N0:1022610897 (Fraud Recovery Account) vide a letter dated 13th August 2020 signed under duress by Dr Philemon Ibrahim Gora while he was still in detention and order the release of Dr Festus Udoh and the release of their materials in the possession of DSP Baba Barau.
