Governor Mai Mala-Buni of Yobe on Wednesday inaugurated the construction of Gashua modern market that is worth N2.43 billion.
Speaking at the ceremony in Gashua, Governor Buni said the project was in fulfilment of his campaign promise.
He noted that the market if completed, would boost trade and commerce in the area.
The Governor said the contract of the project was awarded to Sabtech Towers Nig. Ltd and the company were expected to deliver the project within 12 months.
He urged the community to give the contractor maximum co-operation to execute the project successfully.
Earlier, Alhaji Barma Shetima, the state Commissioner, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, said 30 per cent mobilization fee was approved for the contractor.
He said the market which would be built on a six-hectares land entails 505 shops, administrative block, refuse bank, electrification, roads, drainages, boreholes, among others.
Shetima noted that for 44 years, Gashua, the capital of Bade Local Government, could not boast of a standard market.
The Commissioner said the project if completed, would provide job opportunities to youths and enhance revenue generation to the state and the local government.
