The Dala of Fika and renowned international businessman, Alhaji Mohammed Maina Waziri, was on Wednesday honoured by the Alumni Association of the International Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, Bayero University Kano when the National President of the Alumni paid him a courtesy visit.

The businessman who became well established since the late sixties bagged the prestigious “West Africa Businessman of The Year” Award, which was handed over to him by the National President, in a closed ceremony attended by the Alumni members and friends of the recipient, including former Managing Director of National Economic Reconstruction Fund (NERFUND), Alhaji Baba G. Maina.

In his address, the National President described the recipient as an investor with remarkable foresight, perseverance and thoughtfulness.

He further described him as a personality who created business contacts around the world, at the same time helped numerous persons to get established in many spheres of life.

While thanking the National President and the Alumni members for selecting and picking him from a set of contenders, he expressed his surprise and overwhelmingness with joy when it was announced.

He particularly thanked the Institute for grooming 21st-century experts and the Bayero University for initiating the course as part of responsible finance.

The Dala of Fika compared the significance and importance of Islamic banking and finance at Bayero University with a course called MAALIK in John F. Kennedy University in Switzerland.

He said these are courses relevant to the 21st century and can make man excel in life without unnecessary hitches.

Alhaji Waziri, who was impressed by the Award, assured that he will exhaust his energy not only on Islamic Banking and Finance but will include Zakat and Waqf so as to help the poor, uneducated, unemployed and those affected by calamities.

He also called on the youth to be very active, decisive and hardworking, while earning their living in a halal way.
